Request NEFAS for an Event

Could NEFAS Host an Observing Session for My Organization?

The answer is absolutely! One of the core focuses of NEFAS is educating the public about astronomy, and we often do special observing sessions for non-profit and educational organizations. Some of the groups we work with regularly are:

  • Public Schools
  • Private Schools
  • Scouting Organizations
  • Colleges
  • Museums

If you would like to request NEFAS for an upcoming event in your organization, all you’ve got to do is ask!

How Do I Request NEFAS?

The best way to contact us is through e-mail. You should contact us at with as much information about your event as possible. Due to our regularly scheduled observing sessions, and potential weather conditions, it is best if your date can be flexible within a couple of days. Please submit your request as far in advance as possible. We get many requests throughout the year, and we like to honor as many of them as we can.

What Can I Request?

  • Nighttime Observing: Typically organizations request  several of our members set up telescopes for an evening viewing. Depending upon the number of people attending your event, we can provide an appropriate number of members to your event. Our Observing Coordinator will assist with such things as what objects can be viewed, what limitations there might be, and what kind of facilities will be needed for the scopes to be set up.
  • Speaking Engagements: NEFAS also has a limited number of speakers who can give lectures and presentations to your group. Since speaker coordination can be more difficult, more time may be needed for us to plan for your event.
  • Daytime Observing: Solar observing may also be possible for daytime events. Many of our members have telescopes equipped to safely view the sun. The coordination of solar viewing can be difficult due to work schedules and limited equipment availability, so please consider this when requesting your event.
